Describing it as natural progression, Crystal shares how her history as a Gender advocate with CEDAW evolved into climate justice advocacy. Climate change is not neutral with women being disproportionately affected due to existing inequalities. We are all exposed to the effects of climate change, however, we experience varying levels of vulnerability, for example, rural women.
Crystal breaks down into simple terms the concepts of climate change, climate action and climate justice, and explains why women are more vulnerable to climate change impacts because of the persistence of gender inequality.

Crystal recommends education and economic empowerment of women and girls as a key strategy for gender-sensitive climate action. She also outlines the role of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in achieving gender equality, described as the international bill of rights for women and highlights its connection to climate action and climate justice.
