Show Notes

On this episode Dr. Devon Garner, Head of the CARICOM Energy Unit outlines the importance of energy to Sustainable Development. Climate Change is the dark side of fossil fuels and the Caribbean remains one of the most vulnerable to its impacts. Traditional sources of energy in the form fossil fuels burden the region's economic, social and environmental systems. It is imperative that the region transforms its energy systems to become sustainable and resilient. For the region to sustain itself it requires energy that is clean, affordable and accessible. The Caribbean must tap into indigenous sources of energy, and where feasible, deploy technology to harness the wind, solar geothermal and hydro resources that are available. This requires judicious evaluations as solutions must be tailored to the unique Caribbean context. Dr. Gardner provides insight on the region's progress in implementing is Sustainable Energy Roadmap (C-SERMS) as well as his projections for the post-pandemic reality.
