Contrasting greatly with existing economic models, Open Source Circular Economy is about living well within limits, a global trade in the sharing of ideas and solutions instead of physical stuff. It prioritises sharing resources over individual ownership; use of abundant resources over finite resources, the whole system over individual components, optimising local ecosystems for resilience.
It forces us to confront the questions of:
How much do we really need for a good life?
Can our economic systems align with natural ecosystems?
Is growth the objective?
Host Derval Barzey is joined by open circularity consultant Silvia Leahu-Aluas to explore the sharing economy and open source circularity.
As small island developing states like the Caribbean face direct impacts of climate change, open source circularity provides the opportunity to create, find and explore solutions to live within limits.
Silvia Leahu-Aluas is an independent consultant based in Washington D.C. Her work focuses on the concepts and practice of sustainable manufacturing and open source circular economy.
